BEYOND THE CLASSROOM

We share an outdoor campus, Kloofwaters, in the Magaliesburg with St John’s College. In a mountain setting, threaded with river pools and hiking trails, Kloofwaters is a superb facility for experiential learning. This, too, encourages a deep environmental awareness.

We have recently embarked on a new venture in conjunction with St John’s College at Maretlwane in the Magaliesberg.
This venue offers camp facilities and a wilderness school. Click here for more information.

From Grade 4, each year group is taken on an annual camp or tour experience, designed to address the specific needs of that developmental age. The camps form an integral part of extending the girls’ education beyond the classroom and allow learning within a different and often challenging environment. St Mary’s is committed to raising awareness of each individual’s role in preserving our natural heritage and developing habits which will contribute to the health of our planet. To this end, all aspects of environmental responsibility are encouraged.

Senior girls have the opportunity to participate in exchange programmes with schools in Australia, Tasmania, the United States of America and India. The experience of living the lives of others girls in different cultures and countries extends our pupils’ understanding of the wider world and develops a more global perspective.

Cultural and sports tours to overseas and local destinations are undertaken annually. These provide learning enrichment for our girls.
