St Mary's Junior School places importance on the Dramatic Arts and, with the completion of our state-of-the-art Music, Visual and Dramatic Arts centre, dance and drama will continue to develop. From a young age, the girls are encouraged to use their bodies and voices creatively and expressively. The Drama curriculum is divided into two components - performance and theory. The girls learn about the history of theatre, key performance techniques, different movement styles as well as how to work co-operatively. It is a joy to watch them articulate themselves imaginatively and explore freedom of expression! The theory adds an important dynamic to their learning and is a base for many of the practical tasks.
Each year, girls from Grades 4 to 7 participate in the School Play where they have the opportunity to dance, sing and perform for a live audience. The Junior Primary girls participate in their own play. Every alternative year the School Play involves all children from Grade 1 to Grade 7.
All skills the girls learn and develop during Drama lessons help to build confidence and personal expression.
