WELCOME

Welcome to the Junior School

To prepare our children for the changing world and their eventual working environment, the St Mary’s Junior School’s programme is holistic, relevant and rigorous. A strong academic core, the stimulation of creative ability and thinking and the building of a deep personal resilience form the foundation of our current curriculum.

As a local school in a global context, we celebrate our 125 year history and acknowledge where we come from. We strive for international best practice to ensure quality teaching and learning. The result is an effective school which is constantly improving and which develops children who are competent at forming relations with the world.

A strong Christian Anglican faith and value system underpin the curriculum and we aim to foster the growth of positive and friendly girls who do their best. Compulsory Chapel services and divinity lessons are an important part of our School lives. Our children are healthy and sporty and we teach them to look after their bodies and minds. We encourage community-conscious girls who get involved in service to a variety of communities and who are aware of the urgent need to protect our environment and to investigate how to make a difference.

Education is no guarantee of decency and wisdom, but education of a certain kind, one that enables children to think about the world and their place in it, one that empowers children to be human and make a difference, an education that leaves children with a conscience and encourages them to find the answers to global issues, is a worthwhile one. We strive to educate in this way.

Best wishes
