SUPPORT AND COUNSELLING

Outline

St Mary’s has a Counselling and Careers Centre which is named The Open Door. Our philosophy is centred on a holistic and preventative approach and we run numerous group sessions and workshops.

Our team consists of two educational psychologists, Heidi Burkhalter and Lara Rammutla, and an intern Educational Psychologist, Candice Cronk.

We work holistically with members of Little Saints in the area of learning and development. Our role is to collaborate with members of staff and private therapists (occupational, physiotherapy, remedial and speech and language), to ensure the well-being of all children. We participate in weekly therapy and termly Care and Concern meetings. We are in contact with teachers on a daily basis, sometimes observing in classrooms and on the playground. We provide emotional screenings, parent guidance and can assist with referrals to outside psychologists and other professionals in the scope of learning and development.

Parental guidance and support for mothers from Little Saints is also available in the form of Moms’ Mornings. Open discussion is encouraged and mothers have the opportunity to connect with one another.

Muse Mornings are hosted in SMOGS Cottage, during the term, where relevant parenting issues are discussed.

You are invited to contact any members of The Open Door team directly should you wish to make use of the resources available.
