Public Speaking
It has been stated throughout the decades that outstanding communication skills have set apart great thinkers and leaders. We feel that the development of these skills is a critical investment in growing the youth of today. The School takes part in the ‘South African Guild of Speech and Drama Teachers’ Public Speaking competition. The girls participate in all sections of the competition. These include: the Open section for prepared and impromptu speaking; the Trophy team and the Individual Best Speaker. Over the years St Mary’s has produced outstanding speakers with a flair for the art of Public Speaking. Our girls also participate in the Rotary Public Speaking competition annually and, in 2008, Kagiso Mthethwa won this competition and represented South Africa in Australia.
