Basketball

Basketball is a sport that is still in its infancy at St Mary’s. We do not have a court on our campus but have converted a tennis court at Waverley Girls’ into our ‘home ground’.

Basketball began as a Games session in 2004 and the talent and commitment shown to the sport by the current Matrics resulted in our entering the Rainbow League eighteen months ago. The improvement has been exponential and we are now causing schools to sit up and take note of us. Although only in our second year of competition, we already have more teams than most schools.

Last year the 1st Team participated in a tournament at Pietermaritzburg Girls’ High School where we played in the B section. We plan to return to this tournament, with an almost unchanged team, over the weekend of 13 to 15 August to see if we are able to compete in the A section.
