With regard to career education, our aim, as Gloria Marsay writes in Career? Sorted!, is to contribute towards the development of your daughters so that each young woman at St Mary's feels that she is in charge of her own future, is able to make informed choices and feels that she can navigate her own way in the world of work which awaits.
Deciding what to do after school is a process of exploration which begins when the girls select their subjects in Form II and continues at the tertiary institution of their choice. This process can be rather daunting, for both girls and their parents, and the role of the Counselling and Careers Department is to provide information and support to your daughters as they embark on choosing a tertiary field of study.
A Careers Expo and Evening, which also includes pupils from the Alexandra Schools’ Project, is organized each year which provides opportunity for the girls to explore the range of options which are available for tertiary study and work. Activities are conducted throughout the year which include talks by tertiary institutions, guest speakers who address topics such as stress management and interview skills, as well as workshops regarding decision-making, substance abuse and relationship issues.
